First horses arrive at Lustre Lodge

Yesterday saw the first 3 thoroughbred horses arrive at Lustre Lodge since we bought the the property in September. We have we careful not to rush things and have spent the last few months bringing the farm up to scratch, interviewing people for positions, buying new gear and we will continue with our slow and steady  approach to try to do things in the best way possible.

For those interested here is a summary of the first settlers at the farm.

Dream and Excel was a $240,000 purchase at the Easter sale is a mare by Exceed and Excel and a member of the famous Denise’s Joy female line. We won 4 races with her including a memorable 33-1 win in the city and she has produced one foal to date which is in the care of Bjorn Baker after he purchased this Testa Rossa filly for $120,000 at the Magic Millions sale earlier this year, she is currently in foal to More Than Ready.

Moon of Baroda, was originally purchased at the 2008 Easter Sale for $630,000, so you can imagine what type of mare she is. We picked her up at the recent Patinack farm dispersal sale, she is by Sharmadal and from the Blue Diamond winning mare True Jewels. She is now in foal to Foxwedge and we are hopeful of producing a early 2 year old type foal next spring.

The weanling is an unnamed filly that we bred by More Than Ready from the stakes producing mare Flight of Dreams, this weanling will be retained to race by the farm.
