It’s hard to be Humble

Humble checking out Wyong before she heads to the start

Humble (Exceed and Excel x Longueville Lass) finally delivered on her ability on Thursday when she broke her maiden status at Wyong over 1,100 metered in her 5th race start. Bred by the Lustre Lodge team and sold to talented young trainer David Pfieffer as a yearling she showed plenty of early ability and started in the first stakes race of the season in 2013, the Gimcrack stakes where she unfortunately injured herself and was off the scene for over 12 months.

Coming from two lengths last on the corner she quickly reeled in the leaders and won easing down on the line after using the cutaway rail to her advantage. It has taken a while to find the key to her, but its clear she needs to be ridden off the pace and allow her to finish off the race strongly, we found that a couple of times she jumped so well the jockey felt obliged to take up a position and that was her undoing, the addition of the tongue tie also probably helped. David Pfieffer had 2 year old Magic Millions plans for this filly from an early stage, but the early set back put paid to that and now he is hoping it’s onwards and upwards for the talented filly.
